Brain Fog
Have you ever been told you’d lose your head if it wasn’t screwed on? Or unknowingly placed your car keys in the fridge?
What is Brain fog?
- reduced mental clarity
- a lack of focus
- low concentration
- a sense of ‘not quite feeling yourself’
- having a fuzzy head
- forgetfulness
- cloudy thoughts.
- feeling tired
What are the causes?
There could be many possible causes and health conditions related to brain fog such as;
Hormonal Imbalances
During the menopausal transition, oestrogen and progesterone fluctuate which could be related to many symptoms, including brain fog. The thyroid gland may be producing too little thyroid hormone (hypothyroid) or too much (hyperthyroid) causing an imbalance of hormones which can also lead to a lack of concentration or memory.
Vitamin Deficiency
Brain fog might occur due to a deficiency in certain vitamins, specifically B-Vitamins, due to a poor diet or underlying health issues, which can impair your mental performance.
Food Intolerances
Perhaps it is related to food intolerances (gluten, dairy or other grains), which have been known to trigger brain fog symptoms.
Imbalanced gut health
Yes, gut health CAN effect brain health. Perhaps you have an underlying imbalance of good / bad gut bacteria causing bloating and ultimately inflammation within the gut wall. This can lead to ‘leaky gut’! When the cells of our gut wall are damaged, undigested food particles can ‘leak’ into our blood stream which can cause an immune response, creating symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, depression, loss of concentration.
Where are you in your journey?
Perhaps you are experiencing menopausal related brain fog and have been prescribed hormone therapy and would like to take a more natural approach? Or your GP has diagnosed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Alzheimer’s or Dementia and you want nutritional support?
